Disordered hyperuniform quasi-one-dimensional materials

چکیده

Carbon nanotubes are quasi-one-dimensional systems that possess superior transport, mechanical, optical, and chemical properties. In this work, we generalize the notion of disorder hyperuniformity, a recently discovered exotic state matter with hidden long-range order, to materials. As proof concept, then apply generalized framework quantify density fluctuations in amorphous carbon containing randomly distributed Stone-Wales defects. We demonstrate all these hyperuniform, i.e., infinite-wavelength completely suppressed, regardless diameter, rolling axis, number sheets, defect fraction nanotubes. find energetically more stable than periodically Moreover, certain semiconducting defect-free become metallic as sufficiently large amounts defects introduced. This structural study strengthens our fundamental understanding systems, suggests possible physical properties, endowed by their disordered hyperuniformity. Our findings also shed light on effect dimensionality reduction hyperuniformity property

Compaction of quasi-one-dimensional elastoplastic materials

Insight into crumpling or compaction of one-dimensional objects is important for understanding biopolymer packaging and designing innovative technological devices. By compacting various types of wires in rigid confinements and characterizing the morphology of the resulting crumpled structures, here, we report how friction, plasticity and torsion enhance disorder, leading to a transition from co...

Designing disordered hyperuniform two-phase materials with novel physical properties

Heterogeneous materials consisting of different phases are ideally suited to achieve a broad spectrum of desirable bulk physical properties by combining the best features of the constituents through the strategic spatial arrangement of the different phases. Disordered hyperuniform heterogeneous materials are new, exotic amorphous matter that behave like crystals in the manner in which they supp...

Effective media properties of hyperuniform disordered composite materials

The design challenge of new functional composite materials consisting of multiphase materials has attracted an increasing interest in recent years. In particular, understanding the role of distributions of ordered and disordered particles in a host media is scientifically and technologically important for designing novel materials and devices with superior spectral and angular properties. In th...

High-Q optical cavities in hyperuniform disordered materials

We introduce designs for high-Q photonic cavities in slab architectures in hyperuniform disordered solids displaying isotropic band gaps. Despite their disordered character, hyperuniform disordered structures have the ability to tightly confine the transverse electric-polarized radiation in slab configurations that are readily fabricable. The architectures are based on carefully designed local ...

Conductance distributions in quasi-one-dimensional disordered wires.

A detailed analysis of the distribution of conductances P(g) of quasi-one-dimensional disordered wires in the metal-insulator crossover is presented. P(g) obtained from a Monte Carlo solution of the Dorokhov, Mello, Pereyra, and Kumar (DMPK) scaling equation is in full agreement with "tight-binding" numerical calculations of bulk disordered wires. Perturbation theory is shown to be valid even f...
